Head Coach Matt Reimer

Matt Reimer begins his seventh season as head coach at St. Cloud State University in 2020-21. His career record with the Huskies after six seasons is 110-75, which includes NCAA Division II tournament appearances with the Huskies in 2018 and 2019.

In his first year as head coach at St. Cloud State, Reimer led the Huskies to an 18-12 overall record and a 13-9 mark in the NSIC.  SCSU advanced to the second round of NSIC tournament play in 2014-15.

St. Cloud State went 13-16 in his second year including a mark of 10-12 in the NSIC and fell in the first round of the NSIC Tournament. He guided a pair of players in Gage Davis and Scottie Stone to All-NSIC honors. Davis was a First Team All-NSIC selection and named the league's Freshman of the Year. Stone was a Second Team All-NSIC choice.

Reimer had a 19-14 campaign in his third year including a mark of 14-8 in the NSIC North. The program placed third in the NSIC North during the regular season and earned a victory in the first round of the NSIC Sanford Health Men's Basketball over Wayne State College. He aided a pair of players in Gage Davis and Scottie Stone to All-NSIC honors. Davis was a First Team All-NSIC selection after being selected for the league's weekly award four times. Stone was a Second Team All-NSIC choice for the second straight season.

In 2016-17, Reimer led SCSU to a 19-14 overall record and a 14-8 record in the NSIC.  He followed that with a pair of back-to-back 20 win seasons in 2017-18 and 2018-19.  In 2017-18, SCSU posted a 24-9, 17-5 NSIC record and placed second in the NSIC overall and North Division standings.  The Huskies also posted a 2-1 record at the NCAA Division II regional tournament that season.  Gage Davis earned his third All-NSIC honor along with teammates Jon Averkamp and Sean Smith.

In 2018-19, SCSU continued it success in the Reimer era with a 22-9 overall record and a 16-6 record in the NSIC (2nd place). The Huskies advanced to the NCAA Division II Regional for the second consecutive season and Gage Davis was named the NSIC Player of the Year.  SCSU's Brindley Theisen and Sean Smith also earned All-NSIC honors in 2018-19.  A Division II All-Star game participant in 2019, Davis was a consensus All-America for the Huskies in 2018-19.   In 2019-20, Reimer and the Huskies charted a 14-15 overall record and were 11-1 in the always rugged NSIC.

St. Cloud State posted a 14-15 overall record with an 11-11 mark in NSIC play, earning the No. 5 seed in the North Division in th NSIC Tournament. Senior guard Trevon Marshall had a breakout season for the Huskies, earning First Team All-Conference honors after scoring a career-high and team-leading 623 points during the year, averaging an impressive 21.5 points per game. Additionally, Reimer won his 100th career game as a head coach thanks to an 88-56 win over Mary in early December.

Reimer, a longtime St. Cloud State assistant replaced Kevin Schlagel, who retired as the Huskies' head coach after the 2013-14 season.  Reimer is the 13th men's basketball coach in the history of the program.

Reimer was a full-time assistant coach with the Huskies since the 1997-98 season and spent two years prior to that as a graduate assistant coach to current Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Commissioner Butch Raymond.

As an assistant coach, Reimer served as the team's recruiting coordinator and director of operations and player personnel. He handled scouting and practice preparation, served as defensive coordinator, coached guards and wings, coordinated academic progress and checks, was in charge of scheduling, and coordinated all team travel. He also developed and established weight and conditioning programs for the team and assisted in fundraising.

Reimer is the director of basketball camps at St. Cloud State and has worked camps at the University of Massachusetts, Iowa State University, the University of North Dakota and various high school camps in Minnesota.

Prior to joining the staff at St. Cloud State, Reimer was an assistant basketball coach at New London-Spicer High School for four seasons. He was the head boys and girls golf coach, and coached football and baseball. He taught high school math and developed a computer science program.

Reimer graduated from Central College in Pella, Iowa with a degree in math and computer science. He played basketball at Central College for two years and started his coaching career as a student assistant coach from 1989 to 1991 and was a member of the Dutch golf team. He earned a master's in athletic administration from St. Cloud State.

Reimer played prep basketball in Elkader, Iowa, where he was the captain of the 1987 Class 1A State runner-up.

Reimer and his wife Tracy have two daughters, Brittany and Kitri.
